Join Australia’s largest campaign to improve Indigenous health

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can expect to live substantially shorter lives than other Australians – up to 20 years less in some cases.Babies born to Aboriginal mothers die at more than twice the rate of other Australian babies, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience higher rates of preventable illness such as heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes.

It’s a health crisis you’d associate with an impoverished nation, but it’s happening right here in our own backyard.

Joint Rural Health Club Week-end 2012

Stanthorpe     4th May – 7th May

The crew from last year’s JRHCW at the Atherton Tablelands!

What it is:

Once a year the rural health clubs of Queensland converge on a rural town to gain experience of the academic and social aspects of practising health in a rural setting. This year is the 8th JRHCW, and we invite you to join TROHPIQ (UQ), BUSHFIRE (Bond Uni), HOPE4HEALTH (Griffith) and RHINO (JCU) for an incredible weekend focused on showcasing rural health.

What’s on offer:
In 2012 there is a huge academic timetable filled with clinical skills, workshops and seminars covering everything from a musculoskeletal workshop to subcranial ligament testing. The academic experience is of course complemented by a sensational social program. There will be many opportunities to take in the beautiful scenery of the granite belt, as well as sample some of the local produce. A full program of the weekend can be found by clicking here
Who? Allied health, nursing and medical students are all encouraged to apply.

To register now click HERE.

Cost: Luckily for us poor students, the majority of the cost of the JRHCW is covered by sponsors, however a minimal student contribution is required. This cost includes transfers, accommodation, all activities and meals!  Probably the cheapest, most educational holiday you’ll go on! (In previous years this cost has not exceeded $100)

Registration is currently open and closes 5.00pm 10 April. Successful students will be notified by 12 April and payment is to be received by 13th April. Please note: you must be a TROHPIQ member to attend (you can join on-line by click join now! at the top of this page).

Please contact us with any questions to jrhcw@trohpiq.org

Cheers,
Imogen & Mel (TROHPIQ’s JRHCW organisers)
