Skills Day Success

The TROHPIQ skillsday at Herston last Saturday was a great success! More than 120 students came geared with their stethoscopes and a burning desire to gain some hands-on experience. Students rotated between 5 skills stations, which were venepuncture, cannulation, suturing, vital signs and airway management and bandaging. Each session began with a brief and succinct presentation from an experienced clinician in the relevant field. The rest of the session, students formed small groups, each led by a student tutor, and put those newly-acquired skills to practice on the mannequins. It was fantastic to see the beaming faces as students hurried on from one session to the next, and to hear their excited chatter about the skills over morning/afternoon tea. A big thank you to all the participants and the tutors!

Ipswich Skills Day II for 2011 – A Great Success!

The fourth and final TROHPIQ Skills Day for the year was held at UQ Ipswich on Saturday 17th September. We covered important skills including cannulation, suturing, venepuncture, bandaging/slings, wound care, airways management and plastering in a small group setting.  The day brought together Nursing and Medical students from across Queensland, giving us the opportunity to work and learn together.  Overall, the day was a great success, and more Skills Days like this one are planned for Ipswich in the future.

Our thanks go out the the conveners particularly Chris and Jasmin, who organised and ran the Skills Day.
