Regional node trips

Originally conceived to give 2nd year MBBS students a chance to look over the facilities at the various rural clinical nodes, the regional trips have since morphed and are enjoyed by MBBS I, II and nursing and allied health members alike.  On each of the trips the facilities on offer are still shown to the students however, in addition to this, some skills are learnt and practised and time is given to explore the towns.  In short, good times are had by all.

As outlined below, each of the trips is subtly (apart from the destination!) different but each is a lot of fun and come recommended whether you’re thinking of studying there in the future or just looking to get out of Brisbane!

Cherbourg trip

The annual trip to Cherbourg is a fun filled week-end hosted by TROHPIQ.  Medical, nursing and allied health students make up the crowd of volunteers of approximately 40 students.  They’re taken out to Cherbourg with the aim of  learning about the challenges and difficulties that are present in rural indigenous communities.  This TROHPIQ trip also contributes to the community through health promotion and education.  Highlights of the trip include:

  • Running a health promotion clinic at the famous Murgon vs. Cherbourg rugby games (nutrition, first aid, diabetes education and cardiac health).
  • A tour of the Cherbourg community health centre and hospital
  • A seminar on Cherbourg and its extensive history
  • Campfire dinner in the bush (cosy cabin accommodaion) with an open fire breakfast
  • Kingaroy hospital skills sessions
  • And much more!

TROHPIQ’s Cherbourg trip will promise to be bigger and better.  This trip is always very popular and places are limited so be sure to get in early!
