What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid provides help to a person who is:

  • Developing a mental health problem or
  • Who is in a mental health crisis

Why do we need it?

  • The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has concluded that mental health problems rank as the 3rd biggest health problem in Australia
  • Roughly 1 in 5 Australian adults will suffer from a mental health problem in any one-year
  • To reduce the stigma around Mental Health problems
  • The onset of mental illness is typically around mid-to-late adolescence and Australian youth (18-24 years old) have the highest prevalence of mental illness.
  • MHFA is therapeutic: Controlled trials of MHFA in workplace have been found to improve mental health in the participants themselves
  • MHFA increases mental health literacy and ability in dealing with crisis

TROHPIQ is offering this MHFA course specially tailored for medical students which is sure to be a great experience and a fantastic asset to working on the wards in clinical years and beyond.
