Cherbourg is an Aboriginal community in South East Queensland and was a Government settlement in the early 1900s. The Cherbourg Trip is held annually and is one of TROHPIQ’s most popular events. The weekend is usually held in May and coincides with the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival.
This multidisciplinary trip aims to provide students with an opportunity to engage with the local Indigenous community and learn about Cherbourg’s culture and history.
Highlights of the trip include:
- Running a health promotion stalls for children at a local rugby game
- Tour of the Cherbourg community health centre and hospital
- Visit to the Ration Shed Museum
- Goomeri Pumpkin Festival Heritage Dinner Dance
- The Great Pumpkin Roll
