QRME’s University Placements

The Rural Longlook Program is available for 3rd and 4th year medical students from the University of Queensland and Griffith University.  This program has been designed to offer students a rural clinical training experience in one location for the full year to enable a good long look at rural medicine.

A rural placement has great advantages.  The nature of rural medicine is that students  will become a functional part of a rural health team practicing as a “trainee doctor” across the broadest practice of medicine. Your team will include your supervisors so feedback provided can be authentic and continuous.

The program is committed to a model of vertical integration.  Students are supervised by clinicians with a range of experience – from Consultants through to PGPPP Interns – facilitating a diverse and dynamic learning environment. Dedicated QRMLP Medical Educators  are also regularly on site to provide focused and learner centered education sessions.

Throughout the year students’ rural placements will be enhanced with a range of community and tertiary hospital experiences. To supplement these off-site placements students will be invited to join QRME’s registrars for training workshops, skills sessions and attendance at local, regional and national conventions.

In 2011 3rd year and 4th year student placements are available  at Warwick, Stanthorpe, Kingaroy and Dalby, Millmerran, Oakey, Goondiwindi, Inglewood and Gatton hospitals. In 2012 the locations on offer will be expanding to satisfy the high interest of 2011.
